"You Know It's God..."
In early August, Babbie Mason found great joy in returning to Jackson, Michigan and Lily Missionary Baptist Church, which her father, the late Rev. George W. Wade, founded and pastored for 40 years. Back in her home church, she had the pleasure of leading a women's workshop based on her Bible studies Embraced by God and This I Know for Sure. Among the beautiful women who attended was Babbie's 90-year-old mother, Georgie Wade. Babbie describes the afternoon as “phenomenal and blessed.”
One of the workshop attendees, Mikaela Dear of Detroit, shares her reflections from the workshop:
You know it’s God when a message seems specifically tailored for you.
"I am spiritually sustained and encouraged by Christian fellowship and spending time with God and His Word. Despite growing up in the church and hearing a lot about God’s love, however, I recently have sensed that I am only just beginning to scratch the surface of God’s true affection. Babbie Mason's message on that Saturday was exactly what God knew I needed to hear. As she led us in singing and taught from her women's study Embraced by God, we began to explore the vast depths of His love and the significance it has in our lives.
Babbie expounded on John 17:23. “I’m in them and you are in me so that they will be made perfectly one. Then the world will know that you sent me and that you have loved them just as you loved me.” (Common English Bible). This was a bit of a revelation for me because I had never heard God’s love described that way. I knew I was His child, and as a believer, His bride, but I had unknowingly presumed that there existed some kind of spiritual hierarchy that separated Jesus from man. While I knew all of us were indescribably precious to Him and His love was unquantifiable and ever abiding, I had never realized that God’s love is indistinguishable—absolutely the same for me, for you, for Jesus.
Later that day, Babbie taught from her Bible study This I Know For Sure, about the great confidence we can find in God’s Word. One of my favorite Babbie Mason songs is “Standing in the Gap.” The words, the melody—all of it resonates with me and I instantly feel comforted imagining my mother, best friend or fellow church members praying for me. But, to have that image transformed to include Jesus, God’s only Son, whom He loves just as much as me, outstretched before the throne, endlessly interceding on my behalf, is immensely faith affirming. Leaving Lily Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson that day, knowing this for sure left me feeling overwhelmed… overwhelmed with God’s favor, overwhelmed with His care, overwhelmed with His love, and that is always a message worth celebrating."
